Keep It Sweet, Simple and Satisfying with Our Date and Avocado Smoothie

Summer is here! If you’re like us, when it’s hot out, you prefer to keep stove and oven use to a minimum. This makes summer the season of smoothies. Taking cues from Ayurveda, our Date and Avocado Smoothie incorporates seasonal fruit, nut butter, and superfoods for a sweet, cooling treat. Sweet and cooling qualities are said to balance summer’s heat, as do the fresh fruits of the season. For Digestive Ease, Hold the Ice

You may notice there are no ice cubes in this smoothie. While summer is the perfect time to sip cool drinks, adding ice to a smoothie with dense ingredients like date, avocado and almond butter could make for an overabundance of the cold and damp qualities, which may disturb digestion. If you want this and other smoothies to be digested most easily, we suggest skipping the ice.

Superfood Ingredients for a Super Smoothie

This smoothie incorporates a number of beneficial ingredients. Did you know that chia seeds are one of the healthiest foods on the planet? These tiny seeds are packed with fiber, protein, fatty acids, antioxidants, and micronutrients. When blended into our Date and Avocado Smoothie, they had subtle texture and a nutty flavor.

Avocado is another superstar ingredient in this smoothie. Avocados are higher in potassium than bananas. Potassium is an important mineral that many of us do not consume enough of. Adding high-potassium ingredients like avocado into your diet may reduce blood pressure, lowering your risk of kidney failure, heart attack and stroke. Plus, avocado is mild in flavor and adds creamy texture to this smoothie. While avocado is high in fat, most of the fats it contains are monounsaturated oleic acid — a heart-healthy fat associated with reduced inflammation and cancer-fighting properties.

Another of our secret ingredients? Ghee. Adding a tablespoon of ghee to your smoothies optimizes nutritional absorption, enhances digestibility, and adds a dose of healthy fat-soluble vitamins. We make our own ghee on the full moon, for an infusion of auspicious energy. Then we ship Full Moon Ghee all over the country. Order your jar today! We use plain in the Date and Avocado Smoothie recipe below, but it could also be delicious with a dollop of our flavored ghees like Maple, or even Chocolate.
