Ghee is great for keto

Ghee has many proven health benefits and has been revered for millennia for it’s healing properties. But why is it specifically great for keto?

Ghee is a versatile fat with a very high smoke point – great for sautéing veggies! It’s loaded with a wide range of fats including medium-chain fatty acids, which can be readily processed for ketone production and quick energy. Ghee contains butyric acid, a highly ketogenic short-chain fatty acid that has anti-inflammatory effects. And let’s not forget to mention that ghee contains CLA (conjugated linoleic acid), a fatty acid that has been linked to weight loss.

Check out our blog for some more recipes and other ideas for using ghee — it’s so versatile, the ghee keto options are really endless. For now, here’s the Pecan Ghee Keto Fat Bomb recipe you’ve been waiting for!

The Recipe: Pecan Ghee Keto Fat Bombs

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup pecans
  • 1/4 cup coconut butter
  • 1/4 cup ghee
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/8 tsp sea salt
  • Optional: 7-8 drops of stevia, or any sweetener of your choice to taste. Omit if you are on a sugar detox.

Instructions

    • Heat a skillet over medium heat.
    • Add the pecans and toast them while constantly stirring. Transfer to a dish when the pecans are darker and smell toasty. They’ll toast even more while cooling.
    • Roughly chop the pecans into medium/large chunks.
    • In a small saucepan, combine coconut butter, ghee, and coconut oil and heat over low heat until melted.
    • Stir in vanilla extract and sea salt, as well as a sweetener, if using.
    • Divide the chopped pecans into a silicone mold of your choice, like ice cube trays.
    • Pour the heated butter and coconut mixture over the pecans, dividing it evenly.
    • Freeze for at least 30 minutes until the fat bombs harden.
    • If you don’t have a silicone mold, you can pour the mixture in a small container, freeze, then cut into bite-sized squares.
    • Store in the freezer or the refrigerator.
